Also known as 'Californian Common Beer', Steam Beer was produced in California in the mid-19th century and was made by fermenting lager yeasts at higher temperatures. This is what gives it the drinkability of a lager, but also a depth of flavour most commonly found in ales. Anchor's classic tribute to history is crisp and thirst-quenching with a light, malty finish.

The historic Anchor Brewery was saved from closure in 1965 by Frederick Louis Maytag III. He learned his craft, steadily improving the conditions and output of the brewery before releasing the iconic Anchor Steam in 1971. Still one of the only breweries to regularly produce this style of beer, Anchor has gone from strength to strength and is now widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of the American Craft Beer scene.
